Green Investor Incentive Program

Montgomery County believes that greater investments in our local green businesses will uncover the economic value embedded in solving our global environmental challenges.

That's why, in addition to promoting the next generation of green entrepreneurs, we are supporting green investors, too.

Each year, if you invest in a Montgomery County business that a) researches, develops or provides an innovative, new-to-the-market green product or service; and b) implements sustainable operations as verified by a third party, you may qualify for a payment of up to $50,000.

In 2010, the Green Economy Task Force identified entrepreneurs' limited access to funding as a barrier to growth. To overcome this challenge, we are doing two things simultaneously: 1) serving as curators for green companies that are well-prepared to seek and accept funds; and 2) cultivating more investors.

As curators, we take time to groom promising entrepreneurs for success.  This is done in our Business Innovation Network, through our training programs, and with partners like Bethesda Green.

Our second imperative is to cultivate investors, because without a bigger pool of funding, we are simply growing new ideas that can leave for equity opportunities elsewhere. The Green Investor Incentive Program will encourage more investments in our qualified green companies and highlight innovations that are being created locally to solve problems globally.

The Green Investor Incentive Program application and detailed eligibility criteria (Bill 40-12) can be downloaded from our Related Resources section.
